The Spinanes

In 1996, I went to Israel with my high school.
It was a life changing trip in many, many ways.
The Spinanes 'Strand' came out that year and became a sound track to my movements.
Weird, to put the warm desert of the Holy Land and the Spinanes together, in one sentence and experience.
But something about it worked.
Rebecca gates voice sounds sun lit.

DON TRIP

DON TRIP= TRUTH IN THE BOOTH.
poet.
All his video's are just him in the booth, one shot, one angle, one take, one good rapper.

LOVE LIFE

I loved love life.
I saw them once in San francisco at the Hemlock Tavern. Only a circle of candles dimly lit the room.
'The Rose he lied by'' was one of my favourite records of 2000, when it came out. It was released on Troubleman Unlimited who were totally my favourite label of that era. They released the radest stuff of the late 20th, early 21st century (haha)
The entire record swept me off my broom stick.
Their second record 'Here Is Night, Brothers, Here the Birds Burn' came out on Jagjaguwar in 2002.
Here's the opening track: LISTEN LOUDLY
Do what it is says, become the song, listen loudly
Katrina Ford, who I always thought was a man, listening to the first LOve Life record, went on to form Celebration who are still around today

Mr. Muthafuckin eXquire

So coolloquial.
Produced by EL-P, which is such a perfect coupling.
I'm psyched about this. Sparse simple dark head nod perfect amount of here now abstract sensibility.

Severed Heads- Dead Eyes Opened

One of my favourite Australian groups. More of a group than a band.
Tape loops and synth soups.
slurp.

PAS DE DEUX-Lonely Guys

"WE ARE SOCIALITES
WE ARE SO COMMERCIALIZED"

Pretty timeless words.
Preemptive strike!
This is from the early 80's, duh!
So great

Jhene Aiko "Stranger"

My favourite RN'B song of the year thus far.
Soft and sexy.
mmmmmmm

DEATH GRIPS

One of my favourite rappers out there at the moment.
Again, hip hop is so exciting again. So many gem jam joints going on in the genre.
It feels like an infinite hyperlink law of physics or something...
But I love the production/style/sonic aesthetic/consistency of this guy.
Zach Hill from the awesome band HELLA produced this record (Ex Military).
RAW AND CRUNCHY. Just like kale.

TRUE ESSENCE.

ABSOLUTE BODY CONTROL

Was listening to ABC a lot last week.
It's good music to listen to when you're on the train, looking across the wintery world.
They need to have free hot water taps on trains. B.Y.O tea.
This music does have a warmth to it, it's in the high hats.

It's a Fine Day

CLASSIC
Opus III-It's a fine day
OPTIMISM could be a future genre?

beautiful beats. Same name different songs!!!

My two favourite producers at the moment, Clams Casino and Jim Jonsin.
Love these beats soooooo much.
lush!!!!!!!
Both called motivation

(Lil B raps over this)

(Kelly Rowland sings over this, and to be honest I don't think it does the beat justice. Sorry to say)
